Friday in the Tokyo Airport (5/21/2021)
I'm finally on my way. My COVID test didn't come back in time for me to leave on Tuesday morning as planned, so I left on Thursday morning instead. It was incredibly stressful, but the Lord taught me that He is in complete control. It is now Friday afternoon in Tokyo, at least that's what my laptop says. My body really doesn't know what day or time it is.
For the flight from DFW to Tokyo, we flew on a Boeing 787, which is the biggest plane I can remember flying on. Sometimes it's hard to believe that something that big can get off the ground. Lift is wild.
There were some folks on the flight to Tokyo who are also going on to Jakarta. We met an Indonesian businessman of some sort who has been incredibly friendly and helpful. We also met an American owner of a coffee roasting company in Indonesia; he and his family are going back for a while. I wish I enjoyed coffee, I really do...but I still think it's pretty gross.
UPDATE **Before boarding, I used a bathroom in the Tokyo airport. Wow. I think the correct term for the toilets they have there is bidet. The system uses water for cleansing, and there was also a heated seat. A new experience for sure.**
Boarding soon for Jakarta.
Royce I am so excited for you! I was on a Boeing 787 when I flew from Newark to Cairo. CRAZY BIG! Thank you for keeping us posted about your travels. Cant wait to hear about Jakarta!
ReplyDeleteLove you big! Lisa and Nora
I can hardly believe that you are finally in Indonesia after all the planning and anticipation! Please blog about how the quarantine is going. It must be rather tedious. Are you completely alone or do you get to hang out with any of your teammates? What is the hotel like? What are they feeding you? What are you reading? How is the weather? Tell us again the name of the city to which you are flying and where you will be working so we can find it in the Atlas. (Bad memory.) When do you actually leave for that city?
ReplyDeleteWe miss you here and we're watching out for Jenny!
Glad to see that you are on your way. Yeah, it is pretty incredible to think about sitting in a flying tube for so many hours!
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to leave even if a little later then planned. That is difficult but patience grows in these situations! You're 'new experience' made me laugh...but a warm seat that is something to think about! Thinking about you...
ReplyDeleteLift is wild. I think about that everytime I am on the airfield. Praying for you Brother!
ReplyDeleteI've heard the toilets are next level in other countries. Sounds like a different world
